Be Committed To Using Organic Garden Fertilizer

Posted on: September 1, 2011

Starting an organic garden includes a commitment to using organic garden fertilizer.  The use of organic compost as fertilizers improves the quality of your garden soil, generating more nutrients that stimulate plant growth.  Because composting helps maintain a neutral pH and helps the soil hold more nutrients, it is able to feed the microbial life present in the soil.  This helps and supports the plants in your garden.

The process of making your garden soil healthy is an ongoing progression, but the result makes it worth the labor.  Apart from improving the soil’s water holding capacity, using organic fertilizers encourages the production of beneficial soil organisms.  The use of organic gardening compost suppresses plant diseases and pests, and also promotes higher yields of agricultural crops.

Many gardeners use organic garden fertilizers to not only make their gardens healthier, but also for general soil improvement.  Even if the garden soil is not able to grow crops immediately, once you add enough compost, it will eventually regain its lost nutrients.  Crops harvested from a garden using organic compost are known to be more nutritious than crops raised with chemical fertilizers.  You may also use organic compost to prepare your garden for the next round of crops to be planted.

Some of the best organic fertilizers are not found in local gardening stores; however, you may get them from your daily household scraps like animal manure and decayed plants.  You can even make a large amount of compost and sell it to other gardeners who are not able to make any; this way, not only are you able to help the environment, you get to earn a few bucks in the process!
